The international festival dedicated to exceptional music is back at the Reggia di Venaria from May 30 to June 2, 2025, for its third edition, featuring four dynamic days of activities that will transform the Reggia and its Gardens into an outdoor performance space, complemented by various meetings and initiatives.
Running from May 30 to June 2, the international festival designed for the Reggia di Venaria and celebrating exceptional music returns for its third installment, with four thrilling days of activities that will turn the Reggia and its Gardens into an outdoor performance venue, enhanced by meetings and initiatives aimed at all ages, including children.
The matinee concerts and afternoon events will present attendees with innovative creative experiences, while The Sounds of the Evening will showcase more extensive and intricate concerts.
The Late Spring Music Festival, orchestrated by the Consortium of Royal Sabaudian Residences in partnership with Claudio Pasceri, a highly regarded Italian cellist and former artistic director of celebrated festivals, aims this year to expand and diversify audience engagement. Artists of international acclaim and amateur musicians, both young and old, enthusiasts and the inquisitive, will come together to celebrate music in all its forms and dimensions.
During the festival’s four days, children from local elementary schools will participate in the Italian premiere of Luciano Berio’s Twice Upon. Renowned concert pianist Gloria Campaner will lead a creativity workshop, which can be reserved via email (servizialpubblico@lavenariareale.it). The TRT Philharmonic will also engage children and their families through its concert and the established program La Voce degli strumenti, aimed at exploring the world of orchestral music.
On June 2, coinciding with Republic Day, the Reggia will come alive with music through performances by amateur ensembles selected through the La Repubblica della Musica call, providing everyone the chance to enjoy live music within the Late Spring Music Festival.
Internationally recognized artists will perform in the Reggia’s most iconic locations: from the stunning Sala Diana to the Chapel of St. Hubert, from the majestic Gardens to the remarkable Galleria Grande.
The festival will commence with Twice Upon – C’era due volte, a wordless theater piece for six groups of children, created by Luciano Berio and produced for the first time in Italy in collaboration with the Centro Studi Luciano Berio and directed by Francesco Bossaglia, a distinguished expert in 20th-century repertoire. Joining him will be actor Matthias Martelli, accordionist Massimo Pitzianti, violinist Piergiorgio Rosso, trombonist Alessandro Pogliani, along with students from the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” of Turin and classes from the elementary schools “E. De Amicis” of Venaria and “R. Levi Montalcini” of Fiano. The instruments used by the children were acquired by A.V.T.A. – Associazione Venariese Tutela Ambiente | Amici Reggia di Venaria Reale and will remain with the schools, while the vibrant T-shirts were donated by Vestil S.R.L.
The musical lineup features a matinee dedicated to the Suites for solo cello by J. S. Bach with Enrico Bronzi, one of Italy’s most sought-after musicians, and a recital by Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen, showcasing works by Schumann and Prokofiev. The evening of May 31 will highlight the viola of Danusha Waskiewicz, formerly a leading first part of Claudio Abbado’s Berliner Philharmoniker, the cello concerto commissioned by the Reggia di Venaria for the Late Spring Music Festival 2025 from composer Matteo Franceschini, a Silver Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, performed by the TRT Philharmonic and Claudio Pasceri, followed by one of the most talented cellists from across the Alps, Romain Garioud, alongside Bulgarian virtuoso violinist Yana Deshkova.
The day of June 1 will open with a “serenely evocative” musical program featuring surprise repertoire performances by pianist Gloria Campaner, viola by Danusha Waskiewicz, and celli by Enrico Bronzi and Claudio Pasceri. The Voice of the Instruments will invite children and families to discover the orchestra, with a program dedicated entirely to Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, designed for everyone. In the evening, two “solo” moments will take place: Swiss saxophonist Marcus Weiss and German violinist Antje Weithaas will present two performances encircling quartets by the Finnish group Meta4 Quartet.
On June 2, Marcus Weiss will perform Luciano Berio’s Sequenza IXb. The festival will conclude with the concert Tutte le Musiche del Mondo, featuring an innovative trio including Antje Weithaas, Danusha Waskiewicz, and Enrico Bronzi, followed by Claudio Pasceri with Berio’s Sequenza XIV, and Olli Mustonen starring as both performer and composer in his Quintet for Piano and Strings, accompanied by the Meta4 Quartet.
Choreographer and dancer Virgilio Sieni, recognized for his deep understanding of music and his talent in enhancing repertoires from various eras and styles, from Bach to Salvatore Sciarrino, will be this year’s guest of honor.
The days of the festival will also feature the Tales around Music meetings, providing opportunities for in-depth discussions and dialogues with artists and scholars such as Finnish pianist and composer Olli Mustonen, conductor Marco Angius, a top interpreter and advocate for contemporary music, Claudio Pasceri, François Lazarevitch, renowned for his performances of early and baroque music, musicologists Talia Pecker Berio and Angela Ida De Benedictis, the honorary president and scientific director of the Centro Studi Luciano Berio, Cecilia Balestra, director of the notable Milano Musica festival, the new artistic director of the Filarmonica Romana, Domenico Turi, and Vincenzo Casale, artistic director of ARTONOV, a multidisciplinary festival in Brussels; finally, composer and educator Matteo Manzitti will engage in dialogue with Daniele Luzzo, who straddles the worlds of cultural anthropology and clinical psychology.
To foster a more communal and sharing atmosphere, each day of the festival will conclude with an Aperitif with the artists, an opportunity for the audience to connect with the event’s protagonists.
All concerts and events are included in the admission tickets to the Reggia, which require online seat reservations. Tickets for Reggia, Everything in a Reggia, and Reggia and Castello della Mandria include access to all events, while those for events in the Gardens only require possession of the Giardini ticket.
