The new song hints at the pop diva’s upcoming 16th studio album.
Mariah Carey has unveiled a new single titled “Type Dangerous.” This marks the pop singer’s first new release in a few years, following her last album, Caution, which was released in 2018. The track is expected to preview her forthcoming LP.
“Looking for the dangerous type,” she sings in this lively track. “I like them dangerous/ That’s my type/ I said I love them dangerous.”
Carey has been teasing her new music on social media throughout the week, showcasing snippets from the official lyric video for “Type Dangerous.” In one clip, the artist is seen listening to an enigmatic track titled “T:D_MC16.mp3.” Additionally, her car’s license plate reads: MC16, both likely hinting at her 16th studio album on the horizon.
Carey recently marked the 20th anniversary of her album The Emancipation of Mimi with the release of The Emancipation of Mimi (20th Anniversary Edition) and an added digital deluxe edition. “When you sit down and explore the entire Emancipation of Mimi album, and think, ‘Some of these songs were a bit more this way or a bit more that way,’ it’s truly fascinating,” Carey shared with Rolling Stone last year as she prepared to begin her Las Vegas residency. “I cherish the album so much that it’s tough to dissect it and say, ‘Oh, I prefer this part over that part.’ It really feels like one complete piece.”
The singer launched Caution, her 15th LP, in 2018. In a review, Rolling Stone described it as “thrillingly current yet retaining Carey’s charm.”
