Miley Cyrus has disclosed that Disney stopped her from performing Hannah Montana songs after the show’s conclusion in 2011.

The Disney Channel series, debuting in 2006, featured Cyrus as a pop star who concealed her true identity to enjoy a normal life.
Throughout its five-year run, Cyrus produced five Hannah Montana soundtrack albums, one live album, and two remix albums. She also released three solo albums under Disney’s Hollywood label before transitioning to RCA, where she dropped her landmark album ‘Bangerz’ in 2013.
Now, Cyrus has revealed that Disney restricted her from performing songs from her Hannah Montana period. “It’s not like I wanted to,” she shared in a recent interview with The Ringer podcast. “Performing ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ wouldn’t have really made sense.”
She added that while she wasn’t eager to perform songs from her Disney days, she had mixed feelings about the complete ban. “It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them,” she remarked.
Last year, Cyrus became the youngest Disney Legend ever, where she apologized to Mickey Mouse: “I definitely wasn’t created in a lab, and if I was, there must’ve been a bug in the system which caused me to malfunction somewhere between the years of 2013 and ’16,” she quipped at the time. “Sorry, Mickey.”
Since then, she has disclosed that Disney now allows her to perform those songs again. “After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I got the green light to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool,” she mentioned.
Cyrus has recently unveiled her latest album ‘Something Beautiful’. In a four-star review, NME remarked that the project “does feel like a fully realized artistic statement,” adding: “This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty significant swing.”
This record is complemented by the Something Beautiful film, which will be shown in theaters for one night only later this month. Directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman, and Brendan Walter, the film accompanies the album.
Recently, Cyrus shared that fellow Disney Legend Harrison Ford dissuaded her from “performing in the forest” as a promotional stunt for the album.
In other updates, the singer informed fans that her next LP will be “extremely experimental.” Additionally, there’s speculation among fans that Cyrus made a jab at Dua Lipa in her new track ‘Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved’.
