Talking Heads are marking their 50th anniversary with the debut video for “Psycho Killer.” The band has brought on the talented Mike Mills as director, featuring Saoirse Ronan as an office worker who embodies a whirlwind of dancing, squirming, shuddering, and screaming throughout her daily tasks. “This video enhances the song,” the band expressed in a press release. “We LOVE what this video is NOT—it’s not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent, or obvious.” Check it out below, and stay tuned for more celebrations from Talking Heads as they honor 50 years since their inception.
Mills, who previously directed the National’s short film I Am Easy to Find, remarked that Talking Heads’ debut album, Talking Heads: 77, “literally changed what was possible in life for me.” He continued, “Getting to explore the subversive, uncategorizable beauty of Talking Heads, and working with Saoirse—who brought so much surprise, power, vulnerability, and mischief to the project—was one of the best experiences of my life. I still can’t believe it actually happened.”
Ronan shared, “Being mentioned in the same context as Talking Heads is undeniably one of the coolest moments I’ve ever experienced. Creating a video with the exceptional Mike Mills for one of their most iconic tracks—‘Psycho Killer’—is a childhood/teenage/lifelong dream realized. The creative team and I had an absolute blast making this, and I can’t wait for Talking Heads fans to enjoy it!”
