Following the arrest of Chris Brown related to an alleged incident at a London nightclub in 2023, US rapper HoodyBaby has also been charged in connection with the same event.
On Thursday (May 15), the ‘Loyal’ artist was detained in Manchester for reportedly attacking a music producer at a London bar two years earlier. He was located at The Lowry Hotel by the Metropolitan Police and arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm just hours after arriving in the city via private jet.
A spokesperson for the Met stated: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 2am on Thursday, May 15 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest pertains to an event at a venue in Hanover Square on February 19, 2023. The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
Brown, who is set to kick off his ‘Breezy Bowl XX’ tour in Europe next month, has been accused of assault by producer Abraham Diaw, who has also filed a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million in damages for the injuries and losses sustained from the alleged incident.
Yesterday (May 17), the Met announced that rapper HoodyBaby, whose real name is Omololu Akinlolu, had also been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent regarding the February 2023 incident, the same charge facing Brown. The police did not disclose further details about Akinlolu’s involvement in the alleged assault.
The day prior, Brown was told he must remain in custody due to the “extremely serious” charges connected to the nightclub incident, during which he reportedly struck music producer Diaw with a tequila bottle and then stomped on him, necessitating hospitalization.
According to Rolling Stone, Judge Joanne Hirst denied his bail request during a hearing and mandated that he stays in custody until his next appearance on June 13 in London, despite his attorney’s claims that he is not a flight risk. Brown has not yet been asked to enter a plea regarding the charge and has yet to address the allegations publicly.
Brown’s tour is set to commence on June 8 in the Netherlands, with stops planned in Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, and Portugal, culminating in a North American leg at the end of July.
Among the scheduled UK performances are two major concerts at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 21 and 22, along with four shows at Co-op Live in Manchester on June 15, 16, 24, and July 3.
However, this ruling places his tour at risk, as the ‘Forever’ artist is slated to begin that journey on June 8 in Amsterdam, just five days before his next court hearing.
