Grinderman, the side endeavor of Nick Cave alongside his Bad Seeds colleagues Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, and Jim Sclavunos, has revealed reissues of their complete discography. Their three albums—Grinderman (2007), Grinderman 2 (2010), and Grinderman 2 RMX (2012)—are set to be released on environmentally friendly black vinyl on July 18. Digisleeve CD versions will also be available on that date.
Formed in 2005, Grinderman served as a raw and primal outlet for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, echoing the sound of Cave’s early post-punk band, the Birthday Party. The band recorded their self-titled debut under the direction of producer Nick Launay, who was brought back for the subsequent two albums. Their third and final release, Grinderman 2 RMX, showcased various collaborations and remixes featuring artists like Robert Fripp, Josh Homme, and Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, among others.
The group disbanded in 2011, briefly reuniting in 2013 at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds were also performing. While Grinderman took a backseat, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have been actively touring and have released several albums, with the latest being last year’s Wild God.
