Queen’s drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Sir Brian May were honored with the esteemed Polar Music Prize by the King of Sweden during a gala event in Stockholm on Tuesday.
The iconic musicians shared this accolade with US jazz artist Herbie Hancock and Canadian conductor Barbara Hannigan at the Grand Hotel Stockholm.
The award was established by Abba’s publisher,lyricist, and manager Stig “Stikkan” Anderson, recognizing the influence and significance of music.
The prize honors individuals, groups, or institutions excelling in the music realm, with the ceremony hosted by mezzo-soprano and journalist Boel Adler.
At 75, Taylor delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech reflecting on Queen’s remarkable journey, stating: “When we started our band… we had ambitions, but never imagined the path we would embark on.
“We were lucky that our four diverse personalities came together to create a remarkable synergy.”

Taylor commended the award’s distinctive recognition of entire careers instead of just personal accomplishments, noting: “The Polar Music Prize is unique because it acknowledges the full span of an artist’s journey.
“We are incredibly proud to accept this highly esteemed award.”
May remarked: “In this moment, I reflect on how that younger Brian May in 1974 would have felt if he knew we would be living this dream 50 years later.”
The guitarist joyfully shared the news on his Instagram, posting a picture with Taylor and wrote a touching caption.
“Rog and I tonight in Stockholm!!! Huge thanks to the Polar Awards!!! Bri.”
Fans swiftly reacted, with one stating: “Absolutely amazed by your speeches! Congratulations!”
Another fan expressed: “Congratulations! Your speeches were incredibly moving. I might have teared up. Love you both so much!!!”
“I adored your speech Bri!!! Congratulations,” a third added, while another noted: “So well deserved, dear friend!
“I watched your acceptance speeches and they were fantastic, even though you moved me to tears when speaking about your beloved dad, Bri. Well done and big congrats! By the way, both of you looked exceptionally handsome too.”

The evening also featured live music celebrating Queen’s legacy and the other awardees.
Rock band Ghost performed a version of Bohemian Rhapsody along with Opeth guitarist Fredrik Akesson.
Queen’s frontman Adam Lambert took the stage to perform hits like Who Wants To Live Forever and Another One Bites The Dust.
