The Foo Fighters have parted ways with their drummer, Josh Freese, who made the announcement via social media.
Freese took to Instagram to announce that he will no longer be performing with Dave Grohl’s band, without receiving a clear explanation.
“The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to inform me that they’ve chosen ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer.’ No reason was provided,” Freese stated.
Despite the change, Freese expressed that he “enjoyed the last two years” with the band, “both on and off stage,” and supports their decision to do what they believe is best for themselves.
“In my four decades of professional drumming, I’ve never been dismissed from a band,” he added. “So while I’m not angry, I am a bit shocked and disappointed. But as many of you know, I’ve always worked as a freelancer and moved between bands, so I’m doing fine.”
Freese has been a part of the punk rock group the Vandals since 1989 and joined the new wave band Devo in 1996. He has also collaborated with the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses and the alternative rock group A Perfect Circle. He started with the Foo Fighters in 2023.
Other notable bands featuring Freese include The Damning Well, Black Light Burns, Nine Inch Nails, and Sublime with Rome.
Current members of the Foo Fighters include Grohl on lead vocals and guitar, Pat Smear (guitar), Chris Shiflett (guitar and backing vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and Rami Jaffee (keyboards and piano).
The Foo Fighters are not on tour currently, and their website indicates their next performance is on October 4 at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
