In a recent episode of the Iblis Manifestations podcast, former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST and current TRIPTYKON frontman, guitarist, and chief songwriter Tom Gabriel Fischer (also known as Tom Gabriel Warrior) shared insights about TRIPTYKON‘s long-anticipated fourth album. He remarked (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I’m consistently writing music and lyrics, and keeping notes. I have numerous ideas for the next album’s production. So it is in progress, and we’ve already played new material and will keep creating this year. We plan to release one or two songs as soon as they’re ready, allowing us to showcase them without revealing the entire album. But it’s still a work in progress.
“Considering the current state of the world on so many levels, I find it challenging to think creatively and act as if everything’s okay and ‘let’s make some music,'” he explained. “There are significant issues right now, and this doesn’t really aid my creativity. For me, being creative requires a sense of a future. I find the term ‘hope’ quite frustrating — it suggests helplessness. You wish for something better but remain in uncertainty. I’d rather know or not know. Music is often written for a purpose, for the future. You want it to stand out and exist. Yet, in a world in turmoil, with environmental crises and human conflict, music seems quite insignificant. There are grave problems that need attention, and as small musicians, it can be hard for me to write music naively, ‘Oh, this riff is cool,’ while humanity struggles to learn from history. This can slow down progress. Additionally, I have faced some personal challenges in recent years that have affected things. But it is happening, and there are many songs — some will be discarded, others will evolve. I also have further song ideas. So it is moving forward.”
Fischer continued: “I run my own record label. I’m not a young artist needing to release an album every year to validate my abilities. I’ve granted myself the freedom to take my time. Plus, people might overlook that the last TRIPTYKON album was ‘Requiem (Live At Roadburn 2019)’, released in 2020. That wasn’t too long ago. Also, ‘Requiem’ is essentially half a studio album; it includes significant studio work. Plus, I recorded the live album TRIUMPH OF DEATH [‘Resurrection Of The Flesh’], which was a complex project as well. Furthermore, I worked on an album for the abandoned project NIRYTH that never saw the light of day. So, I’ve been quite active, recording albums, although not all of them have been released. Such is life.”
The upcoming album from TRIPTYKON is set for release via longstanding industry partners Century Media Records/Sony Music Entertainment in 2025. To this end, the Swiss/German avant-garde extreme metal collective (under its own label Prowling Death Records) signed a significantly improved licensing deal with Century Media Records/Sony Music Entertainment on June 1, 2024. It’s likely that an EP or live previews of TRIPTYKON‘s new material will come before the full album.
Once the songwriting and arrangement sessions in Zurich, Switzerland, meet the band’s satisfaction, TRIPTYKON will move to guitarist V. Santura‘s studios in Bavaria, Germany, for recording and mixing. The album will again be produced by V. Santura and Fischer.
TRIPTYKON in 2025 will include Tom Gabriel Warrior (vocals/guitar), Vanja Slajh (bass), V. Santura (guitar/vocals), and Hannes Grossmann (drums/percussion).
In its 17 years as a band, TRIPTYKON has released two full-length albums, a live LP, an EP, a single, and two box sets.
TRIPTYKON 2025 members are Tom Gabriel Warrior (vocals/guitar), Vanja Slajh (bass), V. Santura (guitar/vocals), and Hannes Grossmann (drums/percussion).
Previous album releases from TRIPTYKON include “Eparistera Daimones” (2010), “Melana Chasmata” (2014), and “Requiem – Live At Roadburn 2019” (2020).
In 2023, Tom and his fellow TRIPTYKON members performed several concerts where they celebrated early CELTIC FROST songs, honoring the influential Swiss metal band he co-founded over 40 years ago.
Bassist Martin Eric Ain, who collaborated with Fischer in both HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST, passed away in October 2017 from a heart attack at the age of 50.
CELTIC FROST reunited in 2001, releasing their comeback album “Monotheist” via Century Media/Prowling Death in 2006. The band disbanded in 2008, leading Fischer to form TRIPTYKON.
TRIPTYKON is managed by Miles Hackett and represented by Jörg Düsedau for Dragon Productions.
Iblis Manifestations is hosted by Shayan, a musician and fitness coach born in Tehran, Iran, after the Islamic Revolution. Growing up under totalitarian religious extremism with strict cultural and societal limitations — defying which could lead to severe consequences — he is known as the frontman and guitarist of the black/death metal band TRIVAX, now based in the United Kingdom.
