ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell has unveiled the official music video for the title track of his latest solo album, “I Want Blood”. The LP, co-produced by Cantrell and Joe Barresi (known for his work with TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, and MELVINS), was recorded at Barresi‘s JHOC Studio in Pasadena, California. This album features contributions from prominent bassists Duff McKagan (GUNS N’ ROSES) and Robert Trujillo (METALLICA), drummers Gil Sharone (TEAM SLEEP, STOLEN BABIES) and Mike Bordin (FAITH NO MORE), along with backing vocals from Lola Colette and Greg Puciato (BETTER LOVERS, ex-THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN).
Cantrell has also announced a new set of U.S. tour dates, starting August 16 in San Diego. This four-week tour will once again feature Cantrell alongside FILTER.
“I Want Blood” highlights the legendary guitarist and vocalist in his most authentic and determined form, merging brooding melodies with intense guitar play and thoughtful lyrics. The album has garnered widespread acclaim, with the Los Angeles Times lauding its “heavy, nuanced songs,” while Kerrang! describes it as a “thunderous solo album that ranks among his finest work.” Revolver featured the iconic musician in their cover story, noting that the collection “delivers weighty, slippery riffs and memorable rock hooks reminiscent of the early days of ALICE IN CHAINS.”
The album is available on CD, digitally, and in several 2LP vinyl variations. A deluxe spoken-word edition, featuring narration by Cantrell and insights from producer Joe Barresi, engineer Maxwell Urasky, Greg Puciato, Roy Mayorga, Gil Sharone, Rani Sharone, George Adrian, Vincent Jones, and Michael Rozon, is also accessible in both vinyl and digital formats. An accompanying animated video series created by Boy Tillekens is available on YouTube.
Cantrell‘s inaugural headlining tour in support of “I Want Blood” commenced on January 31 in Niagara Falls, with FILTER performing as the opening act for all dates.
Cantrell‘s previous solo album, “Brighten”, was released in October 2021. This LP marked Jerry‘s first endeavor outside of ALICE IN CHAINS in 19 years.
Jerry‘s career beyond ALICE IN CHAINS includes two additional solo albums and contributions to several major film soundtracks. His first solo album, “Boggy Depot”, debuted in 1998, followed by “Degradation Trip”. In addition to his work as a solo artist, Jerry has contributed music to soundtracks for various films such as “Spider-Man”, “The Cable Guy”, “John Wick 2”, “Last Action Hero”, and “The Punisher”.
ALICE IN CHAINS reunited in 2006 with vocalist William DuVall joining the fold, releasing their third LP featuring DuVall, “Rainier Fog”, in August 2018.
