Selena Gomez is honoring her longtime friend Taylor Swift’s recent achievement.
On Friday (May 30), the founder of Rare Beauty expressed her support for Swift after the pop icon announced she had officially reacquired her masters for her first six albums.
“YES YOU DID IT, TAY!!!” Gomez exclaimed in uppercase on her Instagram Story. “SO proud!”
Swift shared the news earlier that day by posting images of herself alongside the covers of her first six albums on Instagram, directing fans to a heartfelt letter on her website. In the comprehensive message, the 14-time Grammy winner reflected on the emotional journey of reclaiming her music.
“To say this is my biggest dream come true is an understatement,” she articulated. “To my fans, you understand how crucial this has been to me — so much so that I diligently re-recorded and released four of my albums, labelling them Taylor’s Version.”
“The enthusiastic support you provided those albums and the tremendous success you turned The Eras Tour into enabled me to buy back my music,” the artist added. “I can’t express enough gratitude for helping me reclaim this art that I have devoted my life to, but have never owned until now.”
Swift acquired the masters from private equity firm Shamrock Capital for approximately $360 million, sources informed Billboard. This sale comes six years after Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings bought her catalog from Big Machine’s Scott Borchetta in 2019, subsequently selling his ownership of Swift’s music to Shamrock in late 2020.
Regarding the pop superstar’s acquisition, Braun stated to Billboard, “I am pleased for her.”
Gomez and Swift’s friendship has endured for nearly two decades. The duo first crossed paths in 2008 through the Jonas Brothers — Swift was dating Joe at the time, while Gomez was linked to Nick. Since then, they’ve remained close friends, consistently supporting each other through the various highs and lows of their personal lives and careers.
