Kesha is now addressing the criticisms surrounding the artwork for her 2024 single “Delusional,” which utilized AI technology. Although the track debuted in November, after a few months and just weeks before her forthcoming album, . (Period), she has opted to alter the single’s cover art.
Kesha shared the updated artwork on Instagram, depicting her zip-tied in a black leather and metallic chair. “While creating the cover for my song ‘Delusional,’ I aimed to highlight the absurdity of expecting artists to continuously produce art when we are undervalued,” she explained in her post caption. “I’ve come to realize that staying true to my integrity is more crucial than making a statement,” she continued, stating, “Hence, I’ve chosen to change the cover art for this song. She’s one of my favorites.”
Kesha also took time to acknowledge everyone who contributed to the new artwork, including the photographer, creative director, stylist, hair stylist, makeup artist, and videographer. “Thanks to my amazing crew for helping me reach my fullest potential,” she expressed on Instagram.
The original cover featured a collection of leather handbags scattered on the pavement, with the word “delusional” spray-painted on them. Fans pointed out that some bags displayed noticeable typos. Many expressed their discontent online, lamenting Kesha’s use of AI in her artwork amidst concerns about the technology threatening creative professions.
At the conclusion of her Instagram post, Kesha addressed the AI issue directly. “AI is a Pandora’s box that society has opened,” she remarked. “We must consider the human implications as we learn to use it as a tool rather than a substitute,” she added.
