According to a recent biography of Freddie Mercury, the iconic Queen frontman had a secret daughter with whom he maintained a close bond until his passing in 1991.
The book, titled Love, Freddie, suggests that the child was conceived unintentionally during an affair with a close friend’s wife back in 1976.
Mercury reportedly made regular visits to his daughter and gifted her 17 volumes of detailed personal journals, which she has kept confidential.
The woman, known only as B, is now 48 and works in the medical field in Europe. She has disclosed the contents to rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones for inclusion in the book.
In the book, as covered by the Daily Mail, a handwritten letter from Mercury’s daughter, who wishes to remain anonymous, states: “Freddie Mercury was and is my father.
“I experienced a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the last 15 years of his life.
“He adored me and was utterly devoted to me. The circumstances surrounding my birth may seem unusual and even shocking by most people’s standards.
“That, however, should not be surprising. It never diminished his dedication to love and care for me. He cherished me as a treasured possession.”
Her existence is believed to be known only to Mercury’s closest circle.
The singer began penning his diaries on 20 June 1976, just two days after Queen released their single “You’re My Best Friend” from the 1975 album A Night at the Opera, when he became aware of the pregnancy.
In these writings, he reflected on his childhood in Zanzibar, where he was born Farrokh Bulsara to Parsi-Indian parents on 5 September 1946, and his time at a British-style boarding school in India.
The diaries also recount how his family had to flee Zanzibar during the 1964 revolution before establishing themselves in Middlesex, northwest London.
Mercury penned his last notebook entry on 31 July 1991 as his health declined. He passed away at the age of 45 due to bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS.
In another letter featured in the book, B reveals her motivations for sharing Mercury’s journals after 30 years.
“After over three decades of lies, speculation, and misrepresentation, it’s time for Freddie to be heard.
“Those who knew of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty to Freddie.
“My decision to come forward in my midlife is solely my own. At no point have I felt pressured to do this.
“He entrusted me with his collection of personal notebooks, his only child and next of kin, containing his private thoughts, memories, and emotions about all he had experienced.”
Jones mentioned that B first reached out to her three years ago. She shared with the Daily Mail: “Initially, I was skeptical, but I am completely convinced she is not fabricating anything.
“No one could have invented all this. Why would she have collaborated with me for three and a half years, never asking for anything?”
