In approximately a month, enthusiasts of Metallica’s often-overlooked album Load will have the opportunity to acquire what may be the ultimate version of the 1996 release. Following the reissuing and remastering of the band’s iconic pre-Black Album works, it was inevitable that Load would receive the same treatment.
To maintain the excitement, Metallica shared some unique content exclusive to this newly remastered edition of Load. They uploaded two demos that evolved into “Hero Of The Day” and “Until It Sleeps” onto YouTube. Additionally, there’s an audio-only live track of Metallica performing “Until It Sleeps” from 1996, alongside a live video of their performance of “2 x 4” in London from 1995.
Scheduled for release on June 13 through Blackened Recordings, this new edition has been remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering. It will be available in a variety of formats, including a standard 180g 2LP, CD, cassette, and digital (featuring a Spatial Audio mix using Atmos). Notably, for the first time, this reissue will also include the extended version of “The Outlaw Torn,” originally shortened to fit on the CD.
The Deluxe Box Set will include all the extra items showcased in Metallica’s online posts, featuring goodies such as:
- Load (Remastered) on a 180-gram double LP and CD
- “Mama Said” picture disc
- Three live LPs
- 15 CDs
- Four DVDs containing unreleased content (live shows, rough mixes, demos, etc.)
- MP3 download card for all audio
- Two tour laminates
- 11″ x 17″ Lollapalooza poster
- Pushead patch
- 8″ x 10″ Rolling Stone Magazine cover print
- Five-pack of guitar/bass picks
- Pack of 14 Rorschach Test cards
