10. Following the conclusion of the series in 2011—along with the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie—Miley opened up about her struggle to establish her identity.
“Some of my audience was so attached to a character, which wasn’t me,” she told Howard Stern in 2020. “That created a lot of psychological confusion for me, making me question, ‘Am I valuable as myself?’ The entire premise of the show suggested that when I looked like my true self, no one cared about me. Yet, once I dressed up and wore a wig, suddenly people were chasing my tour bus. That’s a heavy burden for a kid—to think, ‘When I’m myself, no one cares.’ But then, when they’re grooming you to appear as someone else, with lots of makeup and wigs, it impacts you psychologically when you’re so young.”
11. Miley experienced love at first sight when she met her first boyfriend Nick Jonas at a charity event in 2006, both at just 13 years old. “We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met,” Miley recounted to Seventeen in 2008. “He made it his mission to meet me and said, ‘I think you’re beautiful, and I really like you.’ I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I like you so much!'”
After a secret relationship, the couple eventually parted ways, with Miley revealing she “bawled for a month straight” after they broke up. “Nick and I loved each other,” she shared with the magazine. “We still do, but we were truly in love. For two years, he was my everything. However, it was tough to keep things hidden from everyone. We argued frequently, and it turned really difficult.”
12. Her romance with Nick inspired her breakup anthem “7 Things,” where Miley even wore the necklace he gifted her in the music video for the 2008 hit. The couple briefly rekindled their relationship in 2009, and their short-lived reunion inspired the Jonas Brothers ballad “Before the Storm,” featuring Miley.
