The Foo Fighters are set to soar again without drummer Josh Freese.
The 52-year-old revealed on May 16 that he was let go from the band, which he had joined in 2023 following the passing of longtime member Taylor Hawkins.
“The Foo Fighters contacted me Monday night to inform me that they’ve chosen ‘to pursue a different direction with their drummer,'” Freese shared on his Instagram. “No explanation was provided. :(.” (The band currently features Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, and Rami Jaffee.)
Nevertheless, he added, “I cherished the last two years with them, both on stage and off, and I support their decision for the band.”
Freese contemplated the shocking announcement, a first in his long career.
“In my 40 years of professional drumming, I’ve never been dismissed from a band, so while I’m not angry—just a bit surprised and disappointed,” he mentioned. “But as many of you know, I’ve always freelanced and been involved with various bands, so I’m okay. Stay tuned for my ‘Top 10 possible reasons Josh got kicked out of the Foo Fighters’ list.”
