Jennifer Lopez kicked off the American Music Awards with high energy on Monday night, launching the event with a six-minute dance performance featuring 23 hits from the past year. She also switched outfits eight times while hosting the evening. Additionally, she unveiled a change in her upcoming plans, announcing a Las Vegas residency to replace the world tour she canceled last summer.
“SURPRISE JLOVERS! We’re back! I’m doing a residency in Las Vegas!,” she shared on social media on Monday night.
Lopez will perform a dozen shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, starting on Dec. 30 and continuing through March 28, as part of her “Up All Night” residency. Tickets will be available from June 6.
The “On the Floor” singer had withdrawn from the summer 2024 tour about a year ago, citing a need for “time off to be with her children, family, and close friends” during rumors that she and then-husband Ben Affleck were separated. Later, as public signs hinted at their relationship ending, she filed for divorce from the “Argo” Oscar winner.
However, on Monday night in Las Vegas—the AMAs took place at the Fontainebleu on the Strip—Lopez shone the spotlight on others, including Janet Jackson, who performed publicly for the first time in seven years and accepted the Icon Award, recognizing a performer whose body of work has greatly influenced pop music worldwide.
Previous honorees include Lionel Richie in 2022 and Rihanna in 2013.
Rod Stewart received the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award, while Gracie Abrams was honored as new artist of the year. Billie Eilish won seven awards, including song of the year, album of the year, female pop star, and favorite touring artist.
Country music awards went to Post Malone, Dan & Shay, and Beyoncé. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” won favorite hip-hop song, and Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” was awarded favorite hip-hop album. Doechii’s “Anxiety” was recognized as the top social song, while Megan Thee Stallion was named favorite female hip-hop artist. SZA and the Weeknd received accolades in the female and male R&B singer categories.
A complete list of winners can be found on the AMAs website.
