Archspire has certainly had an eventful couple of weeks. They recently welcomed former Inferi drummer Spencer Moore to fill the gap left by Spencer Prewett, literally swapping one Spencer for another. In addition to this lineup change, they also launched a crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting their next album. The campaign was set up just two days ago, with a goal of raising $125,644 USD. Remarkably, within 12 hours, Archspire surpassed their goal, and as I write this, they have accumulated $180,277.
They shared a straightforward post last night to commemorate this achievement:
HOLY SHIT!!! FULLY FUNDED IN 12 HOURS!!!
Thanks for the support! Exclusive vinyl and merch are still available; check the link in our bio!
Now we’ve got to finish this album…
This is what they originally shared on the Kickstarter page, not even a full day earlier:
“After 13 amazing years with Season of Mist Records, we’re now officially independent.
“No label means no safety net. We are now financially responsible for everything: studio time, vinyl pressing, artwork, videos, PR, distribution, and more.
“Being independent gives us full control over our future, but it also means we’re relying on our fans more than ever to help make this happen.
“If you believe in directly supporting bands, now is your chance to grab exclusive vinyl and merch for our upcoming new album!
“Our Kickstarter is now live: let’s create this album together.”
Archspire made it clear that they were serious about their intentions for the funds by sharing significant details:
“Over the past thirteen years, we’ve had a remarkable journey with Season of Mist Records. They helped us establish our brand, fund our albums, and navigate numerous industry challenges. Without their support, we would have faced much tougher times in our early career, and we’re thankful for that. But now, it’s time to take full control of our destiny and become completely independent.
“Going independent means managing everything ourselves: album production, PR, distribution, recording budgets, music videos; you name it. It’s a huge step, but we’re prepared. And we need your support to turn this into a reality.”
“Did you know the industry standard royalty split is 80-85% in favor of the label? This means if an album sells for $29.99, after manufacturing costs and the label’s cut, the band might see as little as $3.00. Labels provide an advance on royalties, but it often takes years—or never—to recoup.
“Archspire wants to break that cycle. By going fully independent, we can take 100% control of our business, fund our own record, and no longer rely on advances or unfair royalty splits.”
“Of course, funding an album on our own comes with risks. Instead of leaning on a label, we must cover the costs for studio time, artwork, advertising, and physical album production.“But risk is nothing new for us. From day one, we’ve quit jobs, crashed on couches, and emptied personal bank accounts to keep the music alive. Our music has always pushed boundaries, and now we’re doing the same with our career.”
They’re heading back into the studio this month, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll deliver.
