A newly published biography of the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury reveals that he had a secret daughter, with whom he maintained a close bond until his passing in 1991.
The 48-year-old woman, referred to only as B, is employed in the medical field in Europe. She has shared her story with rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones for the upcoming book, titled Love, Freddie.
According to the book, B was conceived in 1976 during Mercury’s affair with the wife of a close friend. It further notes that Mercury often spent time with her.
The biography also mentions that Mercury gifted B 17 volumes of his personal journals, which she kept private until now.
The Daily Mail reports that B states in the book: “Freddie Mercury was and is my father.
“We shared a very close and loving relationship from my birth until the last 15 years of his life.
“He adored me and was committed to me. While the circumstances surrounding my birth may seem unusual and even scandalous to many,
“That should not come as a shock. It never diminished his dedication to loving and caring for me. He valued me like a precious treasure.”
Mercury was known to have had relationships with both men and women. He passed away from complications related to HIV/AIDS.
B’s existence was reportedly known only among Mercury’s closest friends.
In the book, B explains her reasons for revealing her story and the journals now. She asserts: “After over three decades of lies, speculation, and distortion, it’s time for Freddie to have a voice.
“Those aware of my existence kept his profound secret out of loyalty to him.
“Choosing to reveal myself in my midlife is my own decision, and mine alone. At no point have I been pressured to do this.
“He entrusted his collection of private notebooks to me, his only child and next of kin, containing his personal thoughts, memories, and feelings about everything he experienced.”
Author Jones tells the Daily Mail: “I initially had doubts, but I am completely convinced she is not fabricating this. No one could have invented all this. Why would she have worked with me for three and a half years without demanding anything in return?”
Love, Freddie is set for release in February of this year.
