During a recent episode of Joe’s podcast alongside Jadakiss, he discussed where the “Luther” collaborators stand in the hierarchy of all-time hip-hop and R&B partnerships.
“Are Kendrick and SZA in a position to claim the top spot among duos?” Jadakiss posed to his co-host, as noted by Complex. Joe replied: “What you need to grasp is we can’t predict if they’ll remain best friends forever. Right now, with about six or seven tracks, they are number one. Yes, they could take that slot.”
He further called Kendrick and SZA’s collaborations “phenomenal” and noted they are “fantastic together.” However, he warned that their relationship might encounter “rocky” moments as their fame grows. Jada disagreed, suggesting the two would be just fine.
Joe eventually proposed that Ja Rule and Ashanti are the “greatest” rap and R&B duo, implying that Lamar and SZA are consciously trying to surpass them. He stated: “I’m telling you, SZA is a solo artist, Kendrick… They might be thinking, ‘Alright, they have fifteen number ones. We already have eight. Let’s wrap this up in two years, and we’ll have eighteen.'” TDE Punch reacted by commenting on The Art of Dialogue on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “… what??”
