SM Entertainment has issued an official response concerning the recent event involving aespa’s Karina.
On May 27, Karina posted several images of herself alongside a red rose emoticon on her personal social media account.
In the images, Karina donned a jacket with red accents and the number “2” on it, which sparked concerns that she was signaling support for a specific political party in anticipation of the upcoming presidential election in Korea. The images were quickly deleted afterward.
As discussions progressed regarding whether Karina’s post held political implications, her agency SM Entertainment released an official statement on May 28.
Read the agency’s complete statement below:
This is SM Entertainment.
We deeply apologize for any concern caused by our artist Karina’s recent post.
Karina intended to share a moment from her daily life on social media, with no other intention or agenda. Upon realizing that the post could be misconstrued, she promptly removed it. We sincerely regret any anxiety this may have caused unintentionally.
Our agency is committed to being more vigilant and making substantial efforts to avert such occurrences in the future. We hope that our artist’s intentions will no longer be misinterpreted or tied to a specific agenda, and we will strive to safeguard Karina and all of our artists.
Thank you.
