This marks Carey’s first solo, non-holiday track in six years. In 2019, she dropped “In The Mix,” an original theme song for ABC’sMixed-ish. Prior to that, her last studio album was 2018’sCaution. In the meantime, she also released a soundtrack for her Apple TV+ Christmas special and several special anniversary editions of her earlier albums.
“Type Dangerous” brought Carey together with N.W.I. and Daniel Moore (according toPitchfork), where she also sampled Eric B. & Rakim’s classic “Eric B. Is President.” It seems there’s more original music on the horizon. “I’m beyond excited to finally introduce ‘Type Dangerous’ to the world!” the singer expressed in a statement. “I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in the studio, working diligently on new music, and I can’t wait to reveal it to my fans, beginning with ‘Type Dangerous’!”
