Following the kickoff of Iron Maiden’s Run for Your Lives World Tour, manager Rod Smallwood has issued a fresh appeal for fans to keep their phones away during the band’s performances.

The British heavy metal legends’ recently commenced tour is a part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, starting off with two sold-out shows in Budapest, Hungary last week.
Before the tour kicked off, Smallwood utilized Iron Maiden’s website to urge fans to keep their phones in their pockets and experience the concert as it was meant to be seen.
“We genuinely want fans to enjoy the shows first-hand, rather than through their small screens,” Smallwood stated. “The prevalent phone use diminishes the enjoyment, especially for the band who see rows of phones, but also for other concertgoers.”
“We believe that the enthusiasm and involvement of our fans at shows truly make them special, but the obsession with phones has escalated to a point where it becomes a significant distraction, particularly for the band. I hope fans understand this and will show consideration by limiting their phone use out of respect for the band and fellow attendees.”
Following the band’s initial shows of the current tour, Smallwood shared a reflective post on social media over the weekend, expressing gratitude to fans for their support of new drummer Simon Dawson, and praising those who listened to his request for minimal phone usage during the concerts.
“A huge thank you to everyone who kept their phones down, respected the band and your fellow fans, and embraced the show the way it was meant to be experienced – in the moment with us,” Smallwood expressed. “That was a tremendous boost for us and the band greatly appreciated it. It’s so much better when they can see you without any distractions, and that fuels them. For the select few who didn’t comply and just had to record everything… I wish you nothing but a very sore arm!”
“But they were a minority, and we genuinely hope this support from fans, particularly in the area in front of the sound desk, continues in Prague tomorrow and beyond,” he continued. “As I mentioned before, feel free to take a quick picture as a keepsake from a fantastic night, but please keep your phone tucked away otherwise.”
Iron Maiden’s current Run for Your Lives World Tour signifies their first performances since concluding The Future Past Tour in São Paulo, Brazil in December. That tour was the last to feature drummer Nicko McBrain, who announced his “decision to step back from the demands of extensive touring.”
