The star behind ‘We Belong Together’ has been teasing this track since earlier in the week and has now officially released it on streaming platforms along with a lyric video.
Co-produced by Carey, N.W.I., and Daniel Moore, ‘Type Dangerous’ samples the classic ’Eric B. Is President’ by Eric B. and Rakim from 1987. In this percussion-driven track, she sings about attracting men who aren’t quite what they seem.
“Motorcycle man had a yen for me / Liked to rush through the tunnel at a breakneck speed / Computer boy toy, he was fun for a while / ‘Til I caught him on the web hacking other girls’ files / You know the guy say he worked construction / Turns out he was movin’ them pounds through customs,” she sings.
The lyric video depicts Mariah Carey stepping out of a mansion and into a luxurious car. Check it out below.
‘Type Dangerous’ is Mariah Carey’s first solo single since 2019’s ‘In The Mix’ and acts as the initial teaser for her upcoming 16th studio album, which has yet to be revealed.
In a press statement (via Pitchfork), she expressed: “I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m excited to finally share it with my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous’!”
This summer, Mariah Carey will headline a major event at the Royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk alongside Eternal and Nile Rodgers & Chic. The show takes place on August 15, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
In February, she was nominated for the Class Of 2025 Hall Of Fame but, unfortunately, was left out when the inductees were announced in April, joining the likes of Oasis, Phish, and Joy Division/New Order.
Mariah Carey’s last album was 2018’s ‘Caution’. Since then, she’s released the standalone single ‘In The Mix’ and has collaborated with artists like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Busta Rhymes, and more.
