Shane Hawkins, son of the late Taylor Hawkins, has been confirmed to tour with Chevy Metal, squashing rumors about him joining the Foo Fighters.
Recently, former Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese made headlines by announcing his departure from the band, citing a decision to “go in a different direction with their drummer.” No further details were provided.
This prompted speculation regarding Freese’s replacement, with many fans suggesting that Taylor Hawkins’ son could fill his father’s former role, especially since he has performed with the Foo Fighters on recent tours and during tribute shows for Taylor.
However, Shane took to Instagram to share that he will instead be touring with covers band Chevy Metal, which was founded by Taylor. Shane has been performing with the band since he was just eleven years old.
Now 18, he expressed his excitement, stating that touring with Chevy Metal is “going to be a blast.”
The identity of Freese’s successor remains uncertain. He had stepped in as the Foo Fighters’ touring drummer in 2023, after the heartbreaking loss of Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Before joining the Foo Fighters, Freese had an impressive resume, having played for Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Devo, and more. Despite his exit, he expressed gratitude for his time with the band, saying, “I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.”
Freese further commented, “In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry – I’m shocked and disappointed.”
He even playfully teased a “Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters” list, which he humorously shared yesterday (May 19).
Meanwhile, the Foo Fighters are scheduled to perform their first show of 2025 at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.
