J. Lo, Billie Eilish, and Rod Stewart Make Waves at the American Music Awards

Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, Eminem, and Rod Stewart celebrated major victories at the American Music Awards.

The ceremony held on Monday in Las Vegas was both hosted and largely influenced by the evening’s emcee, Jennifer Lopez, who is also a renowned singer and actress.

Performances were also showcased by artists like Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani, and another honoree, Janet Jackson.

Here are some highlights from the event.

Billie Eilish triumphed with seven awards at the fan-focused ceremony, claiming most of the central honors, including artist and album of the year for “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” alongside song of the year for “Birds of a Feather.”

Though the 23-year-old was not present to receive her awards personally, as she was occupied on her tour in Europe.

Eminem snagged accolades for favorite male hip-hop artist and favorite hip-hop album, but he too was absent.

As for Beyoncé, the favorite female country artist winner, she also was not in attendance, despite winning favorite country album.

With many celebrities absent, the spotlight shifted significantly onto Jennifer Lopez, also known as J. Lo.

The 55-year-old performed a medley featuring hits like Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” and Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

However, she garnered the most attention for her passionate kisses with both male and female dancers during her acts.

One fan joked on social media about it being “cringe-worthy,” while another remarked that the singer seemed to have “lost her mind.” A “sweat dropping” emoji was used by yet another viewer to depict the scene.

Sir Rod Stewart was taken aback on stage when five of his grown children presented him with the lifetime achievement award.

Looking astonished, he exclaimed, “I’m absolutely flabbergasted! I had no idea they were here – my children.”

The 80-year-old, previously a member of the band Faces, expressed gratitude to his bandmates from both past and present, recalling his youthful ambition solely to perform.

“All I ever wanted was to sing. I didn’t aspire to be wealthy or famous. And here I am now, receiving this incredible award,” he stated.

And indeed, he did sing, delivering a performance of his 1988 hit “Forever Young.”

Another highlight that captured the attention of many on social media was Shaboozey’s expression when Megan Moroney mentioned that the Carter Family “basically invented country music.”

The Carter Family, featuring singer June Carter who later collaborated with Johnny Cash, was a pivotal American folk music group active between the 1920s and 1950s.

While jointly presenting an award, Shaboozey appeared to give a quizzical side glance before responding with a slight laugh.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Shaboozey’s side-eye moment went viral.

But you probably already knew that, right?

Janet Jackson, 59, received the icon award and demonstrated her status by performing a medley of her hits like “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You.”

“I’m incredibly grateful. No offense to anyone, but I don’t see myself as an icon,” she stated.

Echoing sentiments expressed by Sir Rod, she said, “Neither my family nor I aspired to fame; our upbringing was different.”

She concluded: “We always cherished music, dance, and singing, and our recognition came as a result of our hard work and commitment.”

The acrobatic pop artist dazzled during his performance and looked fantastic in a green suit for photo opportunities on the red carpet.

The 22-year-old later switched to a floral purple outfit for the live rendition of his recent single, “Mystical Magical.”

Other performances included Gloria Estefan honoring the heritage of Latin music with a lively Conga, while Gwen Stefani delighted the audience with her hits from the early 2000s.

Additional winners included R&B artist SZA, Gracie Abrams, and Becky G, along with Kendrick Lamar and collaborators Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
