As Babymetal takes to the stage at London’s O2 Arena in anticipation of their upcoming album Metal Forth, we chat with the trio about their newfound penchant for collaborations!
Metal Forth boasts an impressive lineup, featuring seven notable guest artists from the modern metal scene: Poppy, Spiritbox, Electric Callboy, Slaughter To Prevail, Bloodywood, Polyphia, and Tom Morello.
Babymetal vocalist Su-metal shares that their friendships with these artists blossomed during touring, leading to an album that feels “incredibly rich and diverse.” Their current ambition is to inspire the next generation of musicians.
“Throughout the making of Metal Forth and these past few years of touring, we’ve truly felt Babymetal’s recognition in the metal community, and we see those we’ve influenced stepping into the next generation of metal artists,” Su-metal explains. “Our next ambition is to guide that upcoming wave.”
We also engaged with the guest collaborators, who shared their thoughts on partnering with Japan’s premier metal band.
“After years of primarily crafting music on our own, it was invigorating to have new and varied influences enter the mix,” says Electric Callboy’s Kevin Ratajcazk regarding their hit song Ratatata. “It reminded us how easy it is to fall into patterns, prompting us to think more creatively.”
