Fans believe Miley Cyrus is subtly referencing Dua Lipa in her new song ‘Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved’.
The track, which premiered live at a surprise concert in New York over the weekend, features Cyrus targeting a mysterious woman who: “Speaks the perfect French/ She can dance the night away/ And still, she’ll never break a sweat.”
Social media users quickly noted that the ‘Radical Optimism’ singer seems to embody all three descriptions—especially as Lipa has been famously heard speaking French on Charli XCX’s recent ‘Talk Talk’ remix featuring Troye Sivan.
Moreover, many interpret the next line as a strong indication that the song critiques Lipa, who released ‘Dance the Night‘ in 2023 as part of the Barbie soundtrack. However, the reference to never breaking a sweat is somewhat ambiguous.
Numerous social media users think it alludes to the time Lipa’s dance skills faced widespread criticism, leading to the viral “go girl, give us nothing” meme. In an interview with The Guardian last year, Lipa described that moment as “hurtful” and “humiliating.”
“When people took that clip of me dancing online and turned it into a meme, and then when I won the best new artist Grammy, some said, ‘She’s not deserving of it, she’s got no stage presence, she’s not going to stick around.’ Those comments were hurtful. It was humiliating.”

Lipa and Cyrus are rumored to have had tension stemming from their 2020 collaboration on ‘Prisoner’, and they notably have not worked together since. This has led fans online to suspect that the track from Cyrus’ latest album ‘Something Beautiful’ indeed targets Lipa.
Speaking of the album, late last month, the ‘Flowers’ singer performed a short set at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, where, according to Billboard, she personally invited a group of fans to what was labeled a listening session.
During the evening, Cyrus disclosed that this album was merely “just the appetiser” for her 10th full-length project, telling attendees: “My next album is about to be extremely experimental, so have fun with that.”
Cyrus serves as an executive producer on ‘Something Beautiful’, collaborating with Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, Alabama Shakes), and had previously hinted that the “bold” album is inspired by Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, “but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.”
In NME’s four-star review of the album, Nick Levine remarked: “Featuring 13 tracks that unfold over 53 minutes, ‘Something Beautiful’ feels sprawling and seemingly unfazed by current chart trends.
“It’s hard to envision a Spotify playlist that might suit ‘Reborn’, which resembles an Andrew Lloyd Webber show tune written under mild hallucinogens. Although ‘Something Beautiful’ might not be Cyrus’s most commercially successful album, it certainly feels like a fully realized artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has executed another significant risk.”
