The iconic rock band FASTER PUSSYCAT has unveiled their latest single, “Motorbike”. This high-octane track is now available on all major streaming platforms.
In classic FASTER PUSSYCAT style, “Motorbike” embodies the raw, fast-paced energy that established the band as legends of the late-’80s hard rock scene, offering a thrilling ride filled with sleaze, swagger, and attitude.
“It’s all about sex, rock and roll, and motorcycles! The lyrics are playful; interpret them however you like…” exclaims FASTER PUSSYCAT founder and lead vocalist Taime Downe regarding the single. “I began writing ‘Motorbike’ nearly ten years ago, then the pandemic hit and… I can be slow…” he chuckles. “We actually recorded it a couple of times, but I finally feel we nailed it.”
Fans will be excited to know that a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl of “Motorbike” in “Pussycat Purple” is available for order now. For avid collectors, an even smaller quantity of signed seven-inches by Taime Downe are exclusively available at www.fasterpussycat.com.
Following the trend of their prior single releases, the B-side of this vinyl features a cover that has Downe equally thrilled—an adrenaline-fueled rendition of the INXS classic “Don’t Change.”
“I’ve been a huge fan of INXS for ages — I even spent time with Michael Hutchence, Iggy Pop, and Debbie Harry after an awards event, which was unforgettable,” recalls the frontman. “Doing an INXS cover has always been on my wish list — they have so many amazing tracks, but this one is a favorite. We’ve performed it here and there for years, and it’s always included when we play in Australia. I’m thrilled we finally have it recorded, putting our spin on it. It’s INXS meets the SEX PISTOLS, as only FASTER PUSSYCAT can.”
As Taime fittingly sings in “Motorbike”, “Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!”
FASTER PUSSYCAT emerged from the mid-1980s Hollywood rock scene, taking over the Sunset Strip with a sound that was neither glam nor punk but resonated in between. Their self-titled debut included instant hits like “Babylon”, “Bathroom Wall”, “Cathouse”, and “Don’t Change That Song.” Its follow-up, “Wake Me When It’s Over”, achieved even greater success, featuring radio hits such as “House Of Pain.”, “Poison Ivy”, and “Where There’s A Whip There’s A Way.”
Despite exceeding two million records sold internationally, FASTER PUSSYCAT has always embraced their frontman’s underground ethos over mainstream trends. While accolades are appreciated, Taime considers their longevity the biggest achievement. “The only number that truly matters to me is 40,” he states. “Four decades later, FASTER PUSSYCAT is still rocking, and it feels as fresh as it did in 1986.”
In 2019, Taime shared with AL.com about the camaraderie among 1980s hard rock bands: “We were all friends, kind of like incestuous. L.A. GUNS and GUNS N’ ROSES helped us immensely with our start. I was friends with [L.A. GUNS guitarist] Tracii Guns and [GN’R drummer] Steven Adler; it was a melting pot.
“I vividly recall attending the first show of GUNS N’ ROSES, and it’s amusing because when we were forming FASTER, we answered an ad seeking a ‘loud glam guitarist,’ and it turned out to be Slash. We watched him at the first show he did after Tracii left. I thought he was fantastic. Mick remarked, ‘He looks ridiculous.’ [Laughs] I said, ‘Who cares?’ And I ended up selling Slash his hat. … He claims he stole it. He’s full of it. I gave it to him. [Laughs] But he says he stole it; it sounds tougher. We’ve been close friends ever since.”
This past March, FASTER PUSSYCAT made headlines when Downe‘s fiancée fell overboard from the Royal Caribbean ship Explorer Of The Seas on the first day of this year’s The 80s Cruise. The circumstances surrounding her fall, whether accidental or intentional, remain unclear.
