Wednesday returns with their first official single since the 2023 release of Rat Saw God. The indie-rock band from Asheville, North Carolina, has released “Elderberry Wine,” accompanied by a music video directed by Spencer Kelly, who also directed the “Chosen to Deserve” visual. Check it out below.
“Elderberry is recognized as a healing fruit and is a common ingredient in many tonics and syrups designed to support the immune system. Once, my sister ate them raw, and it made her vomit,” said Karly Hartzman, the bandleader of Wednesday, in a press statement. “So, ‘Elderberry Wine’ becomes a love song about creating the ideal conditions for fulfillment. It requires a delicate balance, especially in love, to allow two lives to connect without causing harm to each other.”
The main lineup of Wednesday—Karly Hartzman, guitarist and vocalist MJ Lenderman, Xandy Chelmis, drummer Alan Miller, and bassist Ethan Baechtold—collaborated on “Elderberry Wine.” However, Lenderman recently announced that he will no longer be touring with the band.
