To mark their impressive “Castles & Eagles” headline performances in September 2025 at the Zénith venues in Paris, Nantes, and Toulouse, British heavy metal icons SAXON are set to release “Eagles Over Hellfest” on June 13, 2025, through Silver Lining Music. This release will contain the audio recording of their live performance from Hellfest 2024, reflecting the best elements of the renowned 1980s concert experience with fantastic song choices and stunning stage design.
The live album will be offered as a double audio CD set, complemented by the band’s latest studio release, “Hell, Fire And Damnation”, as well as a standalone double vinyl and digital format.
From “Strong Arm Of The Law” to “Power & The Glory”, and “Denim And Leather” to “Hell, Fire And Damnation”, every one of SAXON‘s top anthems has been incorporated into “Eagles Over Hellfest”, an essential compilation that highlights SAXON‘s outstanding legacy in heavy metal.

In a recent discussion with Stefan Nilsson from Roppongi Rocks, SAXON frontman Biff Byford addressed a potential sequel to the band’s 24th studio album, “Hell, Fire And Damnation”, which was released in January 2024 under Silver Lining Music. He stated: “We’re actually working on [the next SAXON LP] today. Most ideas are coming from Brian [Tatler, guitar], Doug [Scarratt, guitar] and Nibbs [Tim Carter, bass]. My role is just to arrange everything, write lyrics, and create melodies. Simple as that. I leave the guitar riffs up to the boys and it’s up to me whether I like them or not. It’s worked well for years, so our motto is: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We’re likely to start recording the next album in November if all goes according to plan, aiming for a release next year.”
On how SAXON has maintained its relevance over nearly five decades, Biff remarked: “You have to consistently strive to write great songs and avoid self-deception about what’s good. It’s easy to fall into that trap after a long time in the industry. Keeping the quality high—rather than quantity—is crucial. I think we’ve been fortunate over the last decade with some excellent albums and a slightly younger fanbase joining our long-standing fans. We feel lucky to still be relevant, but it’s also about our music and our attitude; we don’t care too much, really.”
Regarding DIAMOND HEAD guitarist Tatler—who joined SAXON in early 2023 to replace Paul Quinn—Byford commented: “He’s doing fantastic. He contributed to a few songs on the last album; the title track, ‘Hell, Fire And Damnation’, is our collaboration. Brian hasn’t had a large platform for his music before, so he’s really enjoying it now as he comes from a place that hasn’t seen much success. This is like his chance to make up for lost time, really. He should have been celebrated more back when METALLICA covered a few of DIAMOND HEAD‘s tracks.”
Byford further stated: “It was an obvious decision to ask Brian to join SAXON. He was my only choice. We had many applicants for the guitarist position, but following Paul Quinn is no small feat. You need someone special. This surprised many, including myself, but it’s been a smooth transition. He’s blending well with Doug, so there’s no issues there.”
When asked about the importance of releasing consistently strong studio albums at this stage of SAXON’s career, Biff responded: “It’s essential to strive for greatness in new albums because you’re unlikely to replicate the popularity of ‘Wheels Of Steel’ or ‘Denim And Leather’; those are classics for a reason. The key is not to try to recreate those albums, but rather to express where we are now. It’s surprising how well the last album has done; we continue to sell a lot, especially vinyl. We’ve become somewhat of a streaming band, which is a new adventure for us, likely due to younger fans. They purchase the vinyl and stream it too. But in the end, it doesn’t matter—just get the music out there, however you can.”
Due to Quinn’s decision to step back from touring with SAXON, the band had to cancel its April 2023 South American tour and appearances at the Monsters Of Rock cruise. Quinn has since been substituted on the tour by Tatler.
Brian has been touring alongside Scarratt, Carter, Byford, and drummer Nigel Glockler since mid-2023 while still being a part of DIAMOND HEAD.
Byford and Quinn are the only original members remaining in SAXON‘s current lineup.
Hailing from South Yorkshire, England, SAXON has sold approximately 23 million albums and crafted timeless classics such as “Denim And Leather”, “Princess Of The Night”, “Wheels Of Steel”, and “Power And Glory”.
