NEFARIOUS, the dynamic thrash metal band from California, features Katon W. De Pena (HIRAX) on vocals, with Rick Hunolt (EXODUS, DIEHUMANE) and Doug Piercy (HEATHEN, ANVIL CHORUS) on guitars. The lineup also includes Tom Gears (BLIND ILLUSION, ANCIENT MARINER) on bass and Will Carroll (DEATH ANGEL) on drums. They have just unveiled their second single, “Master Plan”. This track is part of NEFARIOUS‘ upcoming debut album, “Addicted To Power”, set to release on July 18, 2025 through Relentless “Metal” Records, with collectible vinyl available from Hectic/Bleeding Priest Records.
With razor-sharp riffs, vicious vocals, and an unyielding tempo, “Master Plan” offers an intense critique of corruption and control. The video, filmed at Soundwave Studios in Oakland, California by George Anderson Photography, provides a frenetic visual experience that parallels the track’s raw and aggressive thrash essence.
The music was recorded at Subterranean Studio in Oakland, California and Pyramid Studio in San Francisco. Mixing was handled by Damien Rasmussen from Smoke And Mirrors Productions.
Leading the charge is De Pena, whose unique vocal style paves the way for an auditory assault. The dual-guitar onslaught from Hunolt and Piercy delivers an unending stream of riffs and blistering solos, epitomizing the golden age of thrash while pushing its limits. Holding down the rhythm is Gears, whose powerful bass underpins the relentless groove. On drums, Carroll unleashes an aggressive yet precise percussive attack, ensuring every track strikes hard.
