During a drum clinic held in England, Shane Hawkins, son of the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, disclosed that his father’s favorite Foo Fighters song to play was actually “Low,” contrary to the common belief that it was “Aurora.”
Shane participated in a drum clinic at The Dead Famous, a cocktail bar in Newquay, England, this past Thursday (May 29th). From behind the drum kit, he told attendees, “People often claim that ‘Aurora’ was his favorite, but that’s not true.”
He further explained that Taylor’s actual favorite Foo Fighters song to perform was “Low” from the 2002 album One by One, although frontman Dave Grohl didn’t frequently include it in their setlists. After making this clarification, Shane delivered an incredible performance of “Low,” showcasing his drumming skills, as evidenced in the TikTok clip below.

When the Foo Fighters resumed touring a year or so after Taylor’s passing, Grohl dedicated “Aurora” to Taylor Hawkins at each concert, hinting that it was the late drummer’s favorite song. However, as Shane pointed out, it may not have been Taylor’s favorite to actually perform.
Recently, Shane announced plans for a summer US tour with Taylor’s old covers band Chevy Metal, starting on July 19th in Denver, with tickets available here.
Meanwhile, Shane is also among the rumored candidates for the next drummer for Foo Fighters, especially after the surprising departure of Josh Freese last month. To date, the band has not made any official announcements regarding a new drummer.
