Josh Freese served as the drummer for the Foo Fighters for two years, but it appears he won’t be there for a third.
“The Foo Fighters reached out to inform me on Monday night that they’ve opted to ‘go in a different direction with their drummer,’” Freese shared on Instagram. “No explanation was provided. 🙁 Nonetheless, I had a great time over the past two years with them, both onstage and off, and I fully support their decision.
“In my four decades of professional drumming, I’ve never been dismissed from a band, so while I’m not angry — just a little taken aback and disheartened,” he added. “However, as many of you know, I’ve always been a freelance musician, moving between bands, so I’ll be alright. Stay tuned for my ‘Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters’ list.”
Freese stepped in as the band’s drummer following the untimely passing of Taylor Hawkins in 2022. According to Billboard.com, Freese has collaborated with notable bands like The Zappas, Guns N’ Roses, Sting, Nine Inch Nails, and Weezer.
The site also mentioned that Freese has worked as a session musician for bands including The Offspring and Lostprophets, with his drumming featuring on hit albums by Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Lana Del Rey.
