Australian director Baz Luhrmann has revealed a thrilling new project centered around Elvis Presley, three years after his acclaimed film on the King of Rock.
The Oscar-nominated filmmaker, 62, took to social media on Friday to announce an upcoming screening of a fresh Elvis Presley documentary, showcasing previously unseen footage.
‘While creating ELVIS, we embarked on a quest for rumored unseen clips from the legendary 1970s concert films That’s The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour,’ Baz noted.
‘I enlisted researchers to sift through the Warner Bros. film vaults hidden in underground salt mines, and to everyone’s astonishment, we discovered 68 boxes of film negatives, plus never-before-seen 8mm footage.’
Baz mentioned that he dedicated two years to assembling the footage, which will soon be available for fans.

‘A significant discovery was unheard recordings of Elvis discussing his life and music. This inspired the project EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which is neither a traditional documentary nor a concert film,’ he explained.
‘I am eagerly looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!’
The film is slated for release later this year.
His musical biopic about Elvis Presley grossed an impressive US$288 million (AU$449 million) worldwide.
Elvis became the second highest film opening in Australia upon its June 2022 release, second only to The Great Gatsby, also directed by Baz.
At that time, Hugh Jackman praised newcomer Austin Butler for his outstanding portrayal of Elvis Presley.
Butler’s role as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll has swiftly elevated him to international fame.
He was previously recognized for his minor role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

‘During the making of ELVIS, we went on a search for rumored unseen footage from the iconic 1970s concert films That’s The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour,’ Baz told fans.
Hugh concluded his review of Elvis by saying: ‘I highly, highly recommend you all go out to see it.’
The film received eight Oscar nominations at the 2023 Academy Awards but did not secure any wins.
Baz’s films are well-regarded for merging contemporary styles with classic music and visuals.
Recently, the Gold Coast ‘shack’ that Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin rented while making Elvis sold for $5.72 million.
The couple has been living increasingly ‘separate lives’ in recent times, with the costume designer residing in Miami while the director has been based in New York.
Baz and Catherine have been married for 27 years and recently witnessed their children Lilly, 20, and William, 18, leave the nest.
He rose to prominence as the director of the box office success Strictly Ballroom in 1992.
The filmmaker followed up with more successes, including Romeo + Juliet (1996) starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Moulin Rouge! (2001) and Australia (2008) featuring Nicole Kidman, and The Great Gatsby (2013), which also starred DiCaprio.
